Getting Around

Over 10 million people live in and around the London area but thankfully there is a great transport system in place: the underground system (the tube), buses and over ground trains.

Your two most essential purchases on arrival in London are:

  • an A to Z street map which is invaluable in helping you find schools.
  • and an oyster card which will allow you easy prepaid access onto tubes, trains and buses.

 Transport for London Tube Map

The Tube and bus servive in London can seem complicated to a newly arrived Supply Teacher.  If your profession is Supply Teaching In London and are having trouble planning your trips around London, take a look at this map and line status Widget.

You can plan all your journeys at http://www.tfl.cov.uk . Make sure you allow extra time to arrive on time and check the line status before departing.

Cycling Teachers can also find a large amount of advice on cycling in London on the TFL website.

If you do cycle to school, please make sure you wear the correct safety equipment and observe road regulations as London's roads are particularly busy in the mornings!
